Inner ear biology

New paths to hearing. Approximately 10-12% of the population in industrialised countries suffers from impaired hearing and requires treatment, the majority evincing sensorineural hearing loss.
This is caused by damage to the outer hair cells. Neither conventional hearing aids nor implanted hearing aids are completely successful at compensating for these functional defects.
The biology of the inner ear section is subdivided into the physiology of the inner ear, optimised electrode neural interface, and regeneration of the auditory system.
